MONEY waz the motivation : ) That's a bit disturbing , I've seen Gab draw sketches and painted pieces for free with the same quality and finesse as this one wich to me is a bit his trademark , he makes of each sketch a masterpiece so money is certainly not his motivation .

Gab is a professionnal and talented. If people pay 400 $ (a price who become "important")....it's "normal" that he done the best...the aim of the commission....

$400 is a reasonable price for such a beauttifull artwork. It is a lot of money, but it is a beautifull piece! Usually when I go to Essen I have to wait for a hour and a half in front of the door (to open the convention), then run like hel to stand in line (very irritating that there are always people waiting there before the opening), and then try to throw dice for a chance for a drawing. I do this all 3 days! I rather get a number the first day (and wait the rest of the days), or pay. But it is always rewaring to see Gabriele draw, for me or for some body else I will surely go to Essen this year (and run like hell ;D Hope to meet a lot of Dell'Otto fans there!

Hey guys! I read that Gab was in the ARTIST ALLEY in San Diego! In the ARTISTS ALLEY, the artists are selling original art and offering COMMISSIONS! 400$ for the painted sketches I have seen sounds fair to me! I would have been VERY proud to pay 400$ in order to get that Wonder Woman if you ask me...
When I first went to my 1st comics convention I was very surprised to get sketches for FREE! I learnt that US artists were doing more elaborated sketches for european people because they were not coming often here and that most of the time they were getting paid for doing sketches in US conventions.
You can see now MOST of comics pencilers doing FREE head sketches! If you want more, it is a commission and you will have to pay! Sounds fair to me!
I can understand too that may be some of the pencilers are tired and annoyed to see some FREE (great) sketches going on sell on ebay as soon as they're finished! Making someone pay can may be prevent this of happening...
Just my 2 cents

Of course the work is worth to pay for and about 320,-€ is really OK.
If you have a look for the prices for all the art (not only comic) which is offered in the whole world, it´s really more than worth it!
If i remember correctly, i saw people pay more for Gabs art similar to the San Diego sketches.
...and YES, see ya in Essen !!!

Hi Guys
I ususally don't answer on these discussions....but I'm little bit disappointed you are speaking on this board about prices of the arts, etc, etc...
Namor, I don't know if I just met you before, but I always did colour sketches for free at the conventions....for 8 years..and I saw a lot of my art go to E-Bay! I love my job, and I think the price I did for the colour sketches was honest...was you in San Diego?? Did you see the price from other artists...?? there were some artists charge a pencil sketch of a whole figure for 1000$...and he wasn't Jim or something popular like him!
best, Gabriele!

Gabriele is right. there are artists who charge a lot more for less work if you know what I mean. Plus, in the USA it's a common that you have to pay for a sketch. that means that if you didn't take money as an artist everybody would come to you screaming for sketches.... especially if you were as popular as - let's say- Jim Lee or Gabriele How can you please everybody? Tell me?
Let's not forget that "comics" is still a market, a free market. Therefore the demand for the art is still the reason for the prices... If Gabriele only had nine or ten fans he wouldn't need to take money and German fans wouldn't need to throw the dices... But as you can see there are a whole lot of more fans that want sketches from Gabriele. And he would be totally overtaxed sketching a 100000 sketches a day, wouldn't he...
In addition Gabriele does and wants to do quality sketches as you can see, e.g. the Spidey from San Diego. And we - the fans- also want him to paint these masterpieces, don't we?! But that's only possible if he has enough time to finish them properly. That's the reason why he has to take some money because otherwise everyone would want a "sketch" and he wouldn't have the time to do masterpieces anymore... (although his pencil sketches are also awesome, of course and they don't cost as much)
In the end I'd like to say something about the dices in Essen... I know they aren't popular (to say the least). But don't expect to get coloured quality sketches without the dices! if Panini doesn't keep the dices Gab will have to charge in Germany as well or he will have to do quick sketches.
Sorry for the length!

Hey Gab, I'm sorry if I have offended you by posting those prices you charged. But I just thought everyone would like to know that because when they see you, they need to know to bring money and not to expect they can get it for free. Don't get me wrong the price for a colour sketch is a very very good price for what you painted. We all understand you need to be paid because you put alot of time in those pieces and don't want to see your sketches on eBay. I wish you the best because you are my favorite artist! And like you said, there were a couple artists that charged ALOT more for a very simple sketch, I've also heard that there were a couple famous artists that didn't treat their fans very good. Oh and by the way Gab, alot of fans didn't know you were in San Diego. Again, my apologies if I have offended you. I'd like to buy a sketch but I guess I blew it

I think what gabriele offended in the first place was namor's comment... "money waz the motivation"... That's just dumb!!!
Gabriele is always motivated. He said it himself: He LOVES his job! and you can see it when you meet him...

For example, today in Essen you had to pay 250€ to get a full colour sketch...that is too much for me! Don´t get me wrong, i know that this still is very cheap (and i think Panini gets the money for the portfolio an not Gab) if you look at other artists and his masterpieces are worth a lot more money! (But i don´t have 250€ or more for things like this! But who knows, maybe next year we all have the chance to throw the dices...i hope so )

You mean ONLY the persons who bought the 250 euros portfolio got their b&w sketch (available in the portfolio) colored and painted by Gab?

Yes, that´s it... Money rules the world... For me 250,-€ is to much, too.... He made incredible sketches as you will see the next days ! I bought the cheaper portfolio for 100,-€ and got a Headsketch. I will post it soon.

I don´t blame Gab for this (i never would!!!), but i think Panini wanted to sell all portfolios.
But don´t talk about money anymore!
