Marvel Comics has given THE PULSE a look inside the pages of the first issue of Black Panther. The new series makes its debut February 2nd and is created by writer Reginald Hudlin, artists John Romita, Jr. and Klaus Janson with Dean White adding the hues.
Hudlin is very enthused about this project. His enthusiasm appears to be catchy. He said he wanted to work on Black Pather. "He’s iconic ... in the same way that Superman, Batman, Spider Man and Captain America are templates that have spawned many variations on a theme, Black Panther is a unique idea that instantly captures peoples imagination – even people who aren’t really familiar with the character. When I tell my non-comics reading friends I’m writing the Black Panther, they are excited…and they don’t even know why! It just sounds like it’s going to be cool. Then I tell them the pitch, and they really get excited."
"When I agreed to do the book, I told the folks at Marvel that if we plan on reaching beyond the current comic book buying audience, we’re going to have to step it up marketing-wise. And they’ve done a great job promoting the book. Not only have we had a lot of high visibility in industry publications, we also got the attention of the mainstream press. My involvement with the book was announced in the New York Times!"
Keep checking back with THE PULSE for a full length interview with Reginald Hudlin.
