THe question that burns my lips! Where does your way of drawing hair like pikes or so come from? Did anybody ever tell you anything about your way of drawing hair or make some weird commentary? I really like it ;D It's part of your touch. I can recognize your work only with a panel with hair, same thing with carmine Infantino! Thanks for drawing! Xavier

Hi, Cammo! I can wait for the next volumes of Bonerest! I hope I'll see you next year at Angouleme! I really liked your cover for Marvel Italia; I actually hope Marvel France will useit for one of his book! My question: Marvel France has just begun the publiucation of some Marvel books done by European artists... Are involved in one of these books? respectfully and friendly titi-bolt

Hello there.
Xavier: this is a really cool question, actually I had to think about it because I never thought I was drawing hair in a particular way... I think that my major influences have been mangas (I used to watch a lot of Japanese cartoons on TV in Italy when I was a kid!) and Teddy Kristiansen (another artist that I love and influenced me...). So the result is I draw hair with spikes this way because I've always been trying to have a graphic approach on the page and on the characters I draw, and stylistically this improbable mix between mangas and Kristiansen gave birth to my "spikes". Thanks a lot for your nice words, it's thanks to people like you that drawing is such a beautiful job!
T-Bolt: I'll probably be in Angouleme next year as well, it's probably my favourite comic festival in the world, and I've been coming there since 2000, even if I didn't have anything out in France I've always enjoyed coming to the show because it's fantastic. Honestly. I hope the second volume of Bonerest will be out for Angouleme, and I also hope Panini France will use my X-Men cover (for example, Panini Germany used it for one of their books) but I still don't know about it. On the Marvel France books, I am not involved in any project so far (too busy working for DC at the moment), but I'd love to do something in the future (why not?).
As always, gentlemen, thanks for writing and asking questions, I'll always be there to reply as long as I take a break from the drawing table (and from the bar!)
Cheers CAMMO

hi, There were some rumors that you and a few other artists (..I believe Lee Bermejo was one of them) were going to form some sort of team, with a website and everything ..it was going to be called the Phantastic 4 or something.. Is this still going to happen, or were they just rumors?
cheers, Max-

Hey there Max! Actually, rumors were partly correct and partly wrong. I am not part of the Phantastic 4 group, but Lee Bermejo (who is actually living in Italy and sharing the Studio Gioco Duro - founded by Jim Lee and myself - with us) is. Here's the website address (www.phantastic4.com), there's only a starting page, but a lot more will be added very soon! Phantastic 4 is formed by Lee Bermejo, Ale Garza, Carlos D'Anda and Richard Friend, all of them truly "phantastic" artists, and if you'll check the website frequently, you'll be able to know and see a lot about these guys! They also released a very cool sketchbook during last San Diego, showcasing cool art from all of them, maybe they will also sell it online. Hope I helped you out, dude!
Cheers CAMMO

Ciao ragazzi! A quick collective reply.
To Max and Wozi: yeah, I have a hard time finding some time left for commission and sketches. That would indeed mean that I wouldn't find ANY time to go to pubs (and believe me, recently, I only do that on weekends because I usually stop working around 3 AM!). If I had to think about commissions adn sketches outside conventions, that would definitely mean no free time for me, especially on a mental level, because once I'm done with a page this would mean for me that I have to work some more! So, especially now that I am on the Intimates monthly, this is very difficult. But maybe one day, who knows? To Xavier: the WizardCon in Texas was supercool: we had this cool promotional Intimates comic book freebie, and we did a lot of signing sessions with almost the whole Intimates team (only inker Sandra Hope was not there, too bad!): Jim Lee, Joe Casey, Alex Sinclair (editor on the book) and Rian Hughes (amazing artist of Dan Dare with Grant Morrison and designer extraordinaire for our and many other DC books)! The fans' reaction to the Intimates was fantastic, so it just felt great to be there! I did a lot of sketches, there was always a long line for me, last day I managed to finish the last sketch exactly 5 minutes before the shuttle from the hotel to the airport left. I jammed a lot with Joe Casey (he wrote some very cool balloons on some sketches) and Alex Sinclair (he's also Jim Lee's colorist on Batman and Superman, and he's also coloring Identity Crisis- he's also the first colorist I worked with, on Swamp Thing almost 4 years ago - he's a very good friend of mine, and he added some amazing colors on some of the sketches I did, thus helping me a lot getting all the sketches done! I hope I can get the scans of some of them!). People in Texas were supernice, I had a very (short but) good time, and I also got to hang out some more with Jim after he and his family moved back to San Diego. Got to talk to a lot of artists and creators, Barry Kitson (very nice guy!), David Finch, Michael Lark, John Lucas, Frank D'Armata, Gareb Shamus from Wizard (I did a signing session with him and Jim Lee in a comic shop before the convention, very nice guy) and so on. So it was a truly amazing convention, actually the first one I did in the US outside San Diego! Oh, and by the way, BBQ and Shiner Bock (a local beer) and peach cobbler (a peach pie, absolutely fantastic!) were great!
Cheers CAMMO
